Electric Buses: Battery and Hydrogen - What’s the difference?

Fuel cell electric and battery electric buses are similar in that they both use an electric drive with battery packs and electric motors. Both are quiet and emit no pollution.

Electric buses are propelled by electric motors. A battery electric bus uses electricity stored in batteries to power the electric motors. The batteries must be recharged and charging times can vary widely.

Hydrogen fuel cell electric buses are also electric buses propelled by electric motors. A hydrogen fuel tank feeds into a fuel cell that produces electricity. The electricity continuously charges a battery, which feeds the electric motors and provides a buffer for higher electric loads.
